In their own words

  1. Bravazelli, shombalino! Cheeseburger. Frandolizzi, bom-badango!

  2. Zamboretti flibbalando, pickup truck! Shalabim, drizzafonzo!

  3. Frozzalinni, tax return, babaluzzo! Shimbadelli, wowza, frambolay!

Rico Bellafonzo arrives in Praetoria from a mysterious distant land called “Italy”. He is a bard. Beyond that, extracting useful information from him becomes considerably more difficult.

Absolutely none of what Rico says makes any sense.

A language all his own

Rico speaks in gibberish with random English words sprinkled through it. An occasional familiar word offers the brief promise of understanding, then the rest of the sentence happens. There is no helpful translation waiting behind it. There is certainly no reason to assume he has answered the question.

This has not prevented every lady in Praetoria from seeming to swoon over him. The dark curls, magnificent moustache, amber aviators, and blue pinstriped suit may be doing some of the conversational work. The flared trousers and effortless confidence are doing the rest.

Vinnie’s assessment

Vinnie does not trust a word Rico says. How could you, when you cannot understand a damn thing he is saying?

For an archivist who lives by evidence, clear accounts, and getting the details right, Rico is a particularly infuriating arrival: a man who can apparently charm a room without making one intelligible point.

Translation unavailable. Vinnie remains unconvinced.
