The Saltwraith's deck ferret is named Snippet.

Snippet is a terror.

Most ferrets are playful, curious, harmless little things. Snippet, on the other hand, is a small, furry psychopath.

During boarding actions, while the crew fights on the main deck, Snippet sneaks past the chaos. He darts between legs and slips through the confusion. He finds whoever's injured, exhausted, or unarmed, ideally all three, and launches himself at their throat.

Captain Frankie tried to stop him once. "Snippet, no. Bad ferret. We don't bite prisoners."

Snippet bit the prisoner anyway. Then he looked at Frankie with an expression that clearly said, "What are you going to do about it?"

Nothing. Frankie did nothing.

Murray the cat tried to establish dominance once. It didn't go well. Murray now gives the ferret a wide berth.

When boarding enemy vessels, the Saltwraith's crew knows that whoever's wounded, whoever's defenseless, whoever looks like easy prey, Snippet will find them. He'll attack from behind and go for vital areas with terrifying precision. The safest kill is the one that can't kill you back. Snippet understands this perfectly.

The Saltwraith's crew thinks he's hilarious. Their enemies think he's a demon. Meanwhile, Snippet doesn't care what anyone thinks.
