Nessa
Owlkin don't fly. Nessa refused to accept it.
She watched hawks and eagles circle above the canopy and felt something fierce burning in her chest. If she couldn't fly, she would find another way.
She studied the wind and carved frames from branches, stretching canvas over them. Then she climbed to the highest boughs and hurled herself into the open air, again and again, until she learned to glide.
Her parliament thought she was reckless. They were right. But they also saw what she accomplished. Scouting missions that normally would have taken days took hours. Messages reached distant roosts in a fraction of the time. When predators attacked from above, Nessa met them in their own domain, diving from the canopy with talons extended and a battle cry that echoed through trees.
She soars across the Broken Lands on her glider now, wind whipping through her feathers. Mahkah Hemlig and her Conclave Arcana minions think the forest floor is the battlefield.
Nessa will teach them to fear the sky.
