Fungus Spawn
The Realm of Silence underneath Praetoria was dark, vast, and quiet. Just the way the Venari scout party liked it. For they could move silently along the twisting caverns, unseen in the shadows.
But as they turned a corner, maneuvering through the stalagmites, a green cloud emitted from the wall. They recognized it immediately. Spores. Not knowing the source, the group of Venari scrambled backwards, covering their mouths and noses.
But the effect was too strong. As they stood dazed in the tunnels, shaking their heads in an attempt to clear the fumes, a lumbering figure appeared in the darkness. A vine-like tail thrashed behind it. Despite its large size, it was soundless, staring them down from the glint of multiple small eyes.
“Wha-” one of the Venari began.
But they never got to finish. The Fungus Fiend lunged forward. The stillness of the Realm of Silence was briefly broken by screams. Screams that were cut off within seconds.
And all was silent once again. Through a deal with Uul, a cosmic dark god that thrives in chaos, Silus facilitated his infiltration of the Splinterlands. Uul provided him with power and resources. But the gateway between the realms was not large enough for Uul to cross over in his entirety. Instead, he manifested as the terrifying Shade of Uul. From there, he twisted the primal elemental energies of the Splinterlands. In so doing, he birthed the Fiends: corrupted and dark versions of the elements infected by chaos. The Fiends spread their terror far across the Splinterlands. As each city fell to the Chaos Legion, tales of the Fiends spread. It was said to gaze upon them was to see death itself.
The Fungus Fiend is a master of the underworlds and thrives within caverns, deep inside swamps, or even within the hollowed-out trunks of great trees. It is able to burrow underground and bursts forth to attack its unsuspecting prey. Its spores emit gases that slow its enemies' reflexes and reaction time. While it can burrow incredibly fast and orients its movement by sensing tremors around it, it is less agile once above ground.
