Codex Sage
Meriput is a small hamlet carved into the Daigendark, just beneath the Daigenloft Mountains, where lichen creeps along the cavern walls and root-latticed tunnels connect hearth halls, workshops, and burrows. It is a quiet place, not because it’s safe, but because its citizens know the dangers that lie just beyond its gates. They know survival depends on knowing when to speak and when to listen.
The muriden—or, more colloquially, squeakborn—who call Meriput home are clever, curious, and fiercely cooperative. They share everything, from tools and food to news and blame, and solve most problems with a blend of caution and chatter. Outsiders sometimes mistake them for meek. They’re not. They’re just small, and smart enough to know that size isn’t everything.
The codex sage has lived in Meriput all her life. As a young pup, she organized her scrolls by subject, color, and emotional weight. While other muriden dared each other into deeper tunnels, she memorized cleansing chants and drafted peace treaties between squabbling neighbors. She doesn't like confrontation. She talks too much when she's nervous. But when someone’s hurt, she stops trembling and starts helping. Her magic settles nerves and relieves maladies. She takes action not because she’s fearless, but because she’s terrified of doing nothing. The codex she carries is not a single book, but a stitched-together journal of everything she’s learned. And she is still learning. Always learning. Just in case.
